Boys and Girls Club kicks off Great Futures Campaign

At 3 p.m. Thursday, Boys and Girls Club of America will join with local clubs across the country beginning the Great Futures Campaign to elevate the critical role out-of-school time plays in a child’s chance for a great future.

Every day, 15 million kids leave school with no place to go, putting them at risk of being unsupervised, unguided and unsafe.

What happens during the hours between school and home can have a dramatic impact on a childs future. By providing access to positive and productive programs as well as caring adult mentors during out of school time Boys and Girls Clubs can help reverse the most negative trends for youth.

To highlight what clubs can offer in local communities the day will be filled with media awareness thanks to national partnerships with Google, ESPN and Disney as an internet disruption will occur at 3 p.m.

For those surfing the web a bell will be rang and in addition celebrity alums such as Denzel Washington, Nick Cannon and Jennifer Lopez will be tweeting and speaking about their support.

For 50 years the Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club has been at the forefront of providing opportunities for youth after school and in the evenings.

Offering programming in character and leadership development, health, education, the arts and sports, fitness and leisure the OBGC has played a critical role in the development of many.

“The Great Futures Campaign is a great tie-in with our 50 years. We are fortunate to be in a position to be able to help many and it is only because of the kindness, dedication and generosity of the entire community that we have been providing for youth since 1964. I encourage all our alumni, friends and supporters to join in the Great Futures Campaign and also join us on September 13th at the club, Father Martin and the Knights of Columbus as we celebrate 50 years,” said OBGC Executive Director Thomas Luckie.
