WATERTOWN — A postal worker in the city is accused of eavesdropping by state police after he allegedly attempted to place a listening device to hear private conversations.

Police said John L. Sullivan, 50, of 1039 Bronson St., put the device inside of a U.S. Postal Service vehicle for a conversation at some point in July at 232 Commerce Drive.

Charged Thursday, Mr. Sullivan was later released with an appearance ticket for City Court.

State police were aided in their investigation by the Office of Inspector General and U.S. Postal Inspection Service.
