LAKE PLACID – In the midst of 250 lacrosse teams playing over 500 games next week, Dick’s Sporting Goods has announced that organizers of the 25th annual Lake Placid Summit Lacrosse Tournament will offer clinics for boys and girls ages 8-14 at the North Elba field complex in Lake Placid.
Three free clinics will be presented in conjunction with Under Armour.
Clinics are set for Aug. 5 at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m,, as well as Aug. 6 at 11 a.m.
Two of the coaches coming to Lake Placid to work with youth lacrosse players have outstanding resumes. Under Armour lacrosse athlete and World Champion Kevin Crowley and NCAA All-America Josh Sims have confirmed their participation in the clinics.
Crowley, a native of New Westminster, B.C., Canada, was a member of the gold medal Canadian national team that recently captured the World Lacrosse Championship outside Denver, Colo.
Sims, of Superior, Colo., a three-time All American at Princeton University, is considered one of the best midfielders of all time.
The two will share their expertise in Lake Placid with aspiring lacrosse talents for the first time.
“Kevin and Josh will undoubtedly raise the level of coaching and knowledge at our clinics,” said Tournament Director George Leveille. “This will be an outstanding way to mark our 25th year in Lake Placid, and I feel, truly sets our event apart. Both players will be big hits with the lacrosse families that will gather in Lake Placid. We thank Dick’s and Under Armour for partnering to make this happen.”
Crowley attended SUNY Stony Brook, and was named 2010 NCAA All American and America East Player of the Year. The 25 year old was the NLL’s and MLL’s top draft pick in 2011, the only player in history to be so honored.
Sims has coached youth and high school lacrosse since 2000.
“We look forward to teaming up with Lake Placid Summit Lacrosse and Under Armour to bring these special clinics to this year’s event,” said Jeff Toler, Senior Community Marketing Manager. “Dick’s believes strongly in supporting grassroots efforts for youth sports in our communities and having someone like Kevin Crowley on board with us to provide special instruction to those attending the event further enhances our efforts in the local area.”
Dick’s will be on site Tuesday, handing out lacrosse coupons and information as well as running their Spin to Win. This will give all attendees the chance to win gift certificates and prizes from Dick’s Sporting Goods.
