Dexter man sentenced to up to 4 years in prison for having heroin

WATERTOWN — A Dexter man was sentenced Friday in Jefferson County Court to up to four years in state prison for possessing heroin.

Steven W. Laclair, 47, whose last known address was 16216 Route 12E, was also ordered to undergo two additional years of supervision upon his release after pleading guilty July 2 to third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and admitted violating probation. He had been charged with possessing heroin with the intent to sell the drug May 1 in Adams. At the time, he was serving five years’ probation imposed in County Court in May for third-degree unlawfully manufacturing methamphetamine and second-degree reckless endangerment convictions.

He was sentenced as a second-felony based on the manufacturing of methamphetamine conviction. Judge Kim H. Martusewicz mandated that he serve his sentence in the prison system’s Willard Drug Treatment Program, in which he will serve 90 days in the military-style recovery program and then serve the balance of his sentence under parole supervision.
