St. Joseph’s Homes’ annual Gold Ball Drop will take place on August 16 at 1 p.m. at Father Martin Field.

Tickets are available from all board members and employees. Tickets are on sale at St. Joseph’s Home, St. Lawrence Federal Credit Union State Street, Kinney Drugs and Walmart or from any board member.

Each year St. Joseph drops up to 2,000 numbered golf balls from Frank Richardson’s helicopter onto Father Martin Field. The ball closest to the hole wins 1st prize of $1,000. Second closest receives $200, third closest receives $100. The numbers on the golf balls correspond to the numbers on the tickets you can buy for $5 each.

The excitement builds as the chopper leaves Ogdensburg Airport and approaches the crowds waiting on the outside of Father Martin Field where everyone’s looking up to see the golf balls pouring out of the belly of helicopter. Measurements are carefully made, the leader board is checked for the name of the person with the winning numbered ball and the lucky winners are announced. You do not need to be present to win.

Festivities before the ball drop include a putting contest. The entry fee for putting contest is only $3 for a chance to win $50.

Special thanks goes out to Frank Richardson for the generous use of his helicopter, St. Lawrence Federal Credit Union, Blevins Brothers, Inc. and Jones Insurance Agency for prize money.

Tickets can also be purchased at St. Joseph’s Home which is serving our community and providing the same level of loving care for the past 127 years. For more information about the Golf Ball Drop or about St. Joseph’s Home please call Sandy Porter, Director of Development at 394-0463.
