Watertown- The funeral service for Raymond E. Whitmore will be Friday, August 8th, 2:00pm at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home, Rev. Steven Murray officiating. Burial will follow the service in Brownville Cemetery. Calling hours will precede the service at the funeral home from 11:00am - 2:00pm.

Raymond passed away Monday, August 4th at the Samaritan Keep Home where he had been a resident since 2007. He was 89 years old.

Born in Antwerp on December 5, 1924, he was a son to Roy D. and Alice Weber Whitmore. He graduated from Antwerp High School in 1942. Following graduation he enlisted in the United States Army from 1944-1946 as a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Division.

On October 25, 1965 he married Sharon Marie Fleming in Elkton, MD. Mrs. Whitmore passed away on September 27, 2011. Mr. Whitmore owned and operated a dairy farm for the first part of his career, and later owned and operated 2 restaurants: The Aldimar and the Red Moon Diner.

Raymond was an avid New York Yankees fan, and he coached the Watertown Elks little league team for 44 years. He also enjoyed gardening. He was a member of the Brownville American Legion and the Oddfellows Lodge.

Raymond is survived by his 3 children from his marriage to Sharon: Roy E. (Erica) Whitmore, Brownville, Wendell R. (Jessica) Whitmore, Black River, Robin M. (David J.) Schumacher, Watertown; 5 grandchildren: Michael, David, Troy, Colin, Owen; and 7 children from a prior marriage: Caryle (Tom) Carr, NC, Julie (Bill) Spencer, Marcellus, Al (Annie) Whitmore, FL, Valerie Boyle, Watertown, Ed (Lisa) Whitmore, Syracuse, Peter (Rita) Whitmore, Watertown, Laurie (Patrick) McGuire, Felts Mills.

He is pre-deceased by a son, Michael Whitmore.
