WATERTOWN — State police charged Joshua P. Stone, 34, of 34735 County Route 46, Theresa, with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance as they investigated a hit-and-run crash on Route 11 in Pamelia.

A witness at the scene of the crash, which took place around 8:50 p.m. Wednesday, relayed information that directed police to the Stewart’s gas station on North Massey Street.

While at the shop reviewing security footage, police said Mr. Stone walked into the shop, at which time police found him carrying 81 individually wrapped packages of heroin.

Mr. Stone also was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and aggravated unlicensed driving and he also received multiple traffic tickets.

Charged at the gas station at 11:31 p.m. Wednesday, Mr. Stone was arraigned in Pamelia Town Court and held at the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building on $11,000 bail.
