ANTWERP — State police on Thursday charged Richard P. Hairston, 30, of Ithaca, with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class B felony, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.
Troopers allege that at about 3:53 p.m. in the town of Rossie Mr. Hairston was driving in an uninspected vehicle. Troopers said during a traffic stop on County Route 26 in the town of Antwerp in Jefferson County, Mr. Hairston was found to be in possession of 200 bags of heroin and lest than 25 grams of marijuana.
Mr. Hairston was arraigned in Antwerp Town Court and sent to Jefferson County jail without bail.
Assisting with the investigation were members of the St. Lawrence County Drug Task Force, United States Customs and Border Protection and the Gouverneur Police Department.
