HEUVELTON — Scores of state troopers, sheriff’s deputies and U.S. Border Patrol agents set up checkpoints and canvassed door to door along Route 812 on Wednesday night in search of two Amish girls reportedly abducted from their roadside vegetable stand.

Authorities issued an Amber Alert for Fannie Miller, 12, and Delila Miller, 6, of Mt. Alone Road, just off Route 812 between Ogdensburg and Heuvelton in the town of Oswegatchie. The girls were believed to have been taken by the driver of a small white four-door sedan about 7:20 p.m. Wednesday, according to St. Lawrence County Sheriff Kevin M. Wells.

Fannie is described as 5 feet tall, 90 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes, and is cross-eyed.

Delila is 4 feet tall, 50 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. She has a round scar on her forehead and is missing front teeth.

Both girls were wearing dark blue dresses, blue aprons and bonnets.

Anyone with information is asked to call the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department at 379-2222.

Mr. Wells said the girls’ parents said that they last saw their daughters waiting on customers at the stand. After the parents turned and looked back, they saw that the girls were gone.

Law enforcement officials set up a command center at the Heuvelton Fire Department and were interviewing members of the Amish community inside the Millers’ two-story, white farmhouse.

Johnson Newspapers writer Amanda Purcell contributed to this report.
