Adams Center- Bulah Burl “Bubba” Gowan, Adams Center, passed away Thursday, August 14th at his residence where he was under the care of Hospice of Jefferson County and his family. He was 75 years old.

There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home Saturday, August 30th at 1:00pm.

He was born in Madison County, North Carolina on May 16th, 1939, a son to Eunie and Madeline Price Gowan. Following his high school education he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard. Later, he transferred to the United States Army Reserves where he would serve for 20 years.

He lived in Adams Center with his soul mate Cecelia Peebles for over 30 years. Bubba enjoyed fishing, hunting, painting, wood-crafting, and spending time with his grandchildren; especially his granddaughter Jessica who he helped raise.

He was a member of the Adams American Legion.

Surviving besides his soul mate, Cecelia, are a son: James Peebles, MD; a daughter and son-in-law: Deborah (Jeffrey) Craine, SC; a brother: Hugh Gowan, PA; a sister: Mary Jane Barnett, NC; 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Donations may be made in his name to Hospice of Jefferson County, 1398 Gotham Street, Watertown, New York 13601.
