Anne Calender, 96, formerly of Mc Clelland Street, passed away August 14, 2014 at Summit Village where she had been a resident.

Miss Calender was born December 11, 1917, in Kula, Asia-Minor (Turkey), a daughter of John and Helen Nefiloglou Calender. She came to the United States at the age of four and graduated from Watertown High School. Miss Calender was employed at her brothers’ neighborhood grocery store, Calenders’ General Store on Factory Street. She was an active member of St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, an avid reader and she loved nature.

Surviving are a brother and sister-in-law; Chris and Eugenie Calender, formerly of Watertown, now are residing in Rochester, several nieces and nephews; Louis (Tula) Calender, Helen (Bob) Eisenberg, George (Leslie) Calender, Michael Calender and several grand nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her two brothers George and Gregor Calender. Anne’s smile and caring nature will be missed.

An hour of calling will be held Sunday from 1-2 pm at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 516 Franklin St. A funeral service will follow at 2 pm with Father Philip Yanulis officiating.
