CANTON — The St. Lawrence County Historical Association has been without a permanent executive director since Trent A. Trulock left in January.

A search committee recommended Marissa Baum, who had interned with the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C., but she declined the job after spending several days in mid-July at the organization’s headquarters at the Silas Wright House and Museum in Canton, board President William H. Flynn said.

Ms. Baum was chosen from a field of four finalists.

“There’s been no readvertisement,” Mr. Flynn said.

The board has not discussed its next move but will have a meeting Thursday, when the issue is sure to come up, Mr. Flynn said.

Meanwhile, J. Susanne Longshore, the association’s collections manager and now its only full-time employee, has been the interim director.

“She’s doing an outstanding job,” Mr. Flynn said.

Mr. Trulock resigned after 17 years as director to take a job with St. Lawrence Brewing Co.

Mrs. Longshore has been with the association since 1996.
