Fowler – Marlene A. Nichols, 80, passed away Friday, August 15, 2014 at her home where she was under the care of her family and Hospice of Jefferson County.

Marlene was born in Gouverneur on June 15, 1934, the daughter of John M. and Elsie Clara Walrath Hanratty. She attended Gouverneur schools and received a general equivalency diploma.

Marlene worked several jobs including at Grants Department Store and at AAFES at Fort Drum.

She married Donald B. Nichols on July 9, 2011. Marlene was married to Herman W. Parow Sr. who passed away in 1971 and was also married to Douglas N. Drummond who passed away in 1995.

She enjoyed knitting, flowers, and camping, especially at Cranberry Lake, sitting around the campfire. Marlene was a member of the Gouverneur VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

Marlene is survived by her husband Donald, her children Deborah and Phil Raven of Carthage, Angela and Steven Baker of Nevada City, CA, Sarah and Kevin Hogue of Cicero, Herman and Elisa Drummond of Watertown, Lori Parow of Carthage, Chrisie and Richard Crabtree of LaFargeville, and stepchildren Linda and Fred Johnson, Betty and Ben Scott, Douglas Nichols, and Dana Nichols, all of Akron, OH, Vicky and Frank Girard of Washington, Elizabeth and Charlie Bowman of Richville. She is also survived by a sister Patricia Morrow of Fowler, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, 2 husbands, siblings Francis Hanratty, John “Jack” Hanratty Jr, Mary Alice Stevens, Helen Joyce Finley, and a grandson Ricky Hartle II.

Calling hours are Monday, August 18th from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm with the funeral service at 1:00 pm at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur with Rev. Howard Maxson, pastor of Fowler Baptist Church officiating.
