Gordon D. Silverthorne passed away on August 16, 2014, in the arms of his loving wife of 42 years.
Born in Buffalo, NY, October 27, 1946, the only child of Gordon O. and Lucy Pieri Silverthorne, he graduated from Lafayette High School, received a B.A. Degree from the University of Buffalo and
an M.B.A. from Columbia University. Gordon served in the United States Air Force from 1966-1970.
In October 1971, he married Sharlene Walerowicz of Niagara Falls at Our Lady of Lebanon Church with Reverend Mason presiding. He is the father of Allyson (Dave) Bold, Nantucket, MA and Beth Silverthorne, Clearwater, FL, grandfather of Dominick Silverthorne, brother-in-law of Kathy and Mickey Porto, Niagara Falls, NY, uncle to a nephew, Michael Porto and two nieces, Marcy Porto and Eileen Pacana. Gordon was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church, Watertown.
Gordon served seventeen years as General Manager of the Ramada Inn of Watertown and careered in Hospitality and Tourism for over forty-five years. He served as a manager of several hotels throughout the state including the Riveredge Resort in Alexandria Bay, Holiday Inn of Cortland, Ramada and Clarion Hotels in Ithaca and the Niagara Hilton Hotel in Niagara Falls. He served several years as part of the adjunct faculty of Hospitality and Tourism with Jefferson Community College. With his partner and friend, Michael Hennegan, he owned and operated the First National Beef and Brew on Public Square.
Gordon served four terms on the Board of Directors of the Greater Watertown Chamber of Commerce, two terms as the co-chairperson of the 1000 Islands International Council and three terms as Vice President of the Mount Carmel Men’s Society. Gordon was also active with Disabled Persons Action Organization, many years active with the Bravo Italiano Festival and the Italian American Civic Association.
Gordon believed that laughter made the day and performed his daily tasks with a twinkle in his eye and laughter in his heart.
