POTSDAM — Gerhard O. Voggel, a Tully resident with an extensive banking background, has been named as SUNY Potsdam’s new vice president of business affairs.
Mr. Voggel, who currently works for Key Bank in Syracuse, starts his new role on Sept. 1.
“It’s a great opportunity for me to do something significant,” he said. “These kinds of opportunities do not come around that often.”
Mr. Voggel said he plans to relocate to Potsdam with his wife Donna and youngest son, Gregory, soon and that his family — including their two other sons, Nicholas and Matthew — has been very supportive of the move.
As the college’s vice president of business affairs, Mr. Voggel will serve as the college’s chief financial officer, overseeing the budget and coordinating facilities management and capital planning.
He will report directly to SUNY Potsdam President Kristin Esterberg and also oversee human resources, student accounts, procurement, environmental health and safety, and Potsdam Auxiliary and College Educational Services Inc.
At Key Bank, he served as vice president for the institutional bank/capital markets and the public sector division for Western New York. He has been working in the banking industry since 1979.
Mr. Voggel is a graduate of Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wis., and a licensed municipal securities representative, a uniform securities agent, a registered municipal finance professional and a registered U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission municipal adviser.
