CANTON - Two Gouverneur men accepted plea offers Tuesday in St. Lawrence County Court that is expected to send them both to prison in October.
Christopher N. Gerthoffer, 29, of 24 South St., Apt. B, pleaded guilty under superior court information to a reduced count of felony second-degree attempted assault. Mr. Gerthoffer admitted he injured his 4-month-old daughter by shoving a baby bottle into her mouth Feb. 23, causing bruising to her head and jaw and bleeding in her mouth. He was originally charged by state police with felony second-degree assault.
The plea agreement calls for Mr. Gerthoffer to be sentenced as a second-felony offender to 2 to 4 years in prison. He was sent to the St. Lawrence County jail without bail pending sentencing Oct. 6.
• Mark A. Weir, 44, of 641 Emeryville Rd., pleaded guilty under superior court information to felony second-degree attempted burglary.
Mr. Weir admitted he unlawfully entered the residence of Rita Chartier, Route 16, Gouverneur, on May 19 and assaulted her and another person at that residence.
The plea agreement calls for Mr. Weir to be sentenced to 3 1/2 years prison. He was sent to the St. Lawrence County jail without bail pending sentencing Oct. 6.
