BRAMPTON, Ontario — The Brampton Thunder of the Canadian Women’s Hockey League figure to improve on their 5-16-3 record from last season after adding three members of the Clarkson University women’s hockey team to their roster following Tuesday night’s draft.
Brampton, part of a five-team Canadian professional league, chose Patty Kazmaier Award winner Jamie Lee Rattray with their second-round pick and then went on to add Clarkson’s captain from last year, Carly Mercer, in the third round and Clarkson goalie Erica Howe in the fourth round.
There was one other Clarkson selection as forward Vanessa Gagnon was chosen a few spots after Rattray in the second round by the Montreal Stars.
Former St. Lawrence University defenseman Brooke Fernandez was picked in the 15th round by the Boston Blades.
The CWHL season begins in early November and concludes in March. Last year teams played 23 or 24 games.
