SACKETS HARBOR — The newly renovated Christ Episcopal Church, 207 E. Main St., will hold an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Aug. 30 to celebrate the completion of its restoration project. A celebration service will be at 3 p.m., followed by a reception with refreshments at 3:30 p.m.
Input also will be sought at the gathering from residents about the possibility of starting a congregation at the church, which could hold Sunday services again. The Episcopal Diocese of Central New York completed its restoration project of the church in April, replacing the historic building’s leaky roof, ceiling and walls. The church, built in 1823, had been closed for eight years after a tree limb crashed through its roof in August 2006.
The parish had to abandon the church, transferring ownership to the diocese.
