CANTON — Former St. Lawrence University pitcher Joe Riley, a Liverpool native, made his professional debut Thursday with the Quebec City Capitales of the Can-Am League.
Riley started the second game of a doubleheader against Rockland, pitched three innings and gave up three runs on two hits and two walks. He struck out four.
The league consists of four teams, including the New Jersey Jackals and Trois-Rivieres Aigles. The league will add a team in Ottawa next year.
Riley went 5-3 for SLU with a 2.21 earned-run average and 50 strikeouts in his final season with the Saints this past spring.
