BOSTON — Former Carthage High School and Syracuse University standout Casey Powell received Major League Lacrosse most valuable player and offensive player of the year awards Tuesday.

Powell, the top points scorer in league history, scored 30 goals and handed out 33 assists in the inaugural season for the Florida Launch and garnered 12 of 15 first-place votes.

The 38-year old Powell is the oldest player to win the award. His brother, Ryan, was named MVP in 2001 and 2006.

Rochester Rattlers goalie and former Syracuse star John Galloway won goalie of the year award.
