FORT DRUM — State Sen. Patricia A. Ritchie, R-Heuvelton, and the Fort Drum Regional Liaison Organization jointly delivered on Monday more than 9,000 signatures and dozens of resolutions passed by local municipalities in support of Fort Drum to Army leadership.

“Fort Drum is the backbone of the north country, and in the months to come we need to continue our efforts to demonstrate just how critical it is that the post remains intact,” Carl A. McLaughlin, executive director of FDRLO, said in a news release.

Sen. Ritchie and FDRLO have been collecting signatures in response to an Army study that estimated a $1.6 billion economic loss for the north country under the worst-case scenario of 16,000 soldier and civilian jobs being cut at Fort Drum by 2020.

They will continue to collect signatures in the months to come. To sign the petition supporting Fort Drum, visit http://www.standupforfortdrum.com.
