Action-packed night slated for Mohawk Raceway

AKWESASNE - After getting rained out last Friday night, Mohawk International Raceway will resume this week with an action-packed schedule lined up.

The Frenchie’s Ford “Go Further” Sportsman Series held over from last week, as well as the driver loyalty draw will now take place this Friday in addition to the already scheduled Frenchie’s Chevrolet 50-lap “Chevy Runs Deep” Series finale. Champions will be crowned in both the Series and the regular track championships.

In the 358 Modified division, Billy Dunn currently leads the way as he looks for his third consecutive MIR track title with a comfortable 32 point advantage over second place Chris Raabe and one point further ahead of third place Carey Terrance. In the Frenchie’s “Chevy Run Deep” Series, Danny O’Brien holds a two point advantage on Brian McDonald and Chris Raabe, with Jordan McCreadie, Tom Conklin and a host of others in contention.

Corey Wheeler leads the way in the Sportsman division with a virtually insurmountable lead of 45 points over second place Dylan Evoy. The Frenchie’s Ford “Go Further” Sportsman Series remains up for grabs with several teams in contention for the championship. Evoy leads the way by just four points over Wheeler, with defending race winner Mike Maresca, Mike Arquiett and Louie Jackson Jr. in pursuit.

Mathieu Robinson holds just a 21-point advantage on Jesse Hudson in the Mod Lite division at MIR. Robinson was the 2011 Mod Lite champion at MIR and finished in second the last two seasons while Hudson has had a phenomenal sophomore season.

Randy Whitting holds a commanding 37 point lead in the Bandit division over Matt Zira. Both have been at the top of the class all season long and have distanced themselves from the field as second place Zira is more than 50 points ahead of third place.

August has been a big month for the MIR Kids Club, it is free to sign up, and there were some great prizes given away each week. On Friday, the track will give out an Applie iPad Air 16GB device. Kids Club members must be present to be eligible to win.
