MASSENA — State police are attempting to identify a body that was found at 3 p.m. Friday off Route 420 in the town of Massena.

In a news release issued Friday evening, police said state Bureau of Criminal Investigation and uniformed officers responded to a report of a body off Route 420.

They secured the scene, which is being processed by the Troop B Forensic Identification Unit.

St. Lawrence County Coroner James M. Sienkiewycz responded to the scene and removed the body for an autopsy to be conducted at a later date, according to troopers, who said investigators are attempting to ascertain the identity of the body and searching missing person databases.

They said the investigation is continuing and additional information will be available upon completion of the autopsy.

Anyone who is aware of a missing person who has not been reported to law enforcement is asked to call state police at 1 (518) 897-2000.
