CANTON — The St. Lawrence University men’s soccer team’s defense held Moravian College to just one shot as the Saints cruised to a 4-0 victory in a nonconference game Saturday.

SLU, ranked No. 7 nationally, scored goals in the first half on shots from Praveen Balakumaran, Austin Roney and Harry Copeland.

Cameron Pilarski scored in the second half for the Saints (2-0 overall).

Moravian fell to 0-2.

CLARKSON 2, SUNY CORTLAND 1

Alex Lewis scored off a free kick from Marco Parisi to lead the Golden Knights (2-0) past SUNY Cortland in a nonconference game in Potsdam.

The Golden Knights scored the first goal of the game on a shot from Kevin Calnan in the 22nd minute.

Matt Williams tied it for SUNY Cortland (0-2) in the 79th minute.

SUNY POTSDAM 2, FITCHBURG STATE 0

Stephen Auyer scored the first goal and assisted on a goal from Ben Firlit as the Bears (1-0-1) won a nonconference game in Potsdam.

Nick Davies stopped six shots to shut out Fitchburg State (0-2).

WOMEN’S SOCCER

SUNY CANTON 6, PAUL SMITH’S 1

Kaleigh Foran scored one goal and assisted on three others as the Kangaroos won their season-opener in a nonconference game in Canton.

Fran Trombley added one goal and one assist for SUNY Canton.

Tressa Goolden, Karyss Terrance, Brittany Pierce and Kristina DiNardo also scored for the Kangaroos.

Nicole Landry scored for Paul Smith’s.

ST. LAWRENCE 3, COLBY-SAWYER 0

Kelsey West stopped one shot for the shutout as St. Lawrence defeated Colby-Sawyer (0-2) in a nonconference game in Canton.

Mimi Coppinger, Kaleigh White and Katie Stames scored for SLU (2-0).

SUNY PLATTSBURGH 3, CLARKSON 0

Danielle Schmitt played all but 5 minutes, 39 seconds in goal and stopped six shots to lead the Cardinals past the Golden Knights (1-1) in a nonconference game in Potsdam.

Lindsey Bushey, Vicky Scott and Cassidy Clavet scored for SUNY Plattsburgh (1-1).

SUNY POTSDAM 1, ALFRED 1 (OT)

Mariana Crevison scored in the 86th minute to help Alfred (0-0-1) salvage a tie with SUNY Potsdam in a nonconference game in Potsdam.

Jess Sterns scored 83 seconds into the game for SUNY Potsdam (0-0-1).

VOLLEYBALL

CLARKSON SWEEPS

Victoria Kirkemo produced 26 overall kills as Clarkson (3-1) defeated New Paltz (25-14, 25-20, 25-17) and Roger Williams (25-11, 22-25, 25-22, 28-26) in the final day of Clarkson’s tournament in Potsdam.

Kirkemo recorded 11 kills against New Paltz and 16 against Roger Williams.

Adrienne Walker added 11 kills against Roger Williams, and Kirstie Shurie picked up 50 assists after recording 32 against New Paltz.

CANTON, POTSDAM WIN

Caitlin Grimshaw led the Kangaroos with nine kills in a 25-18, 25-15, 25-19 sweep of SUNYIT during the final day of the SUNY Canton Tournament.

Jessica Reynolds and Morgan Bills each added seven kills for SUNY Canton (3-0) and Mackenzie Mynter led the team with 19 assists.

SUNY Potsdam claimed a five-set win over Wells, 25-19, 20-25, 25-15, 10-25, 15-12.

Sharon Ofori led the Bears (2-1) with nine kills and Rachel Topf added 26 assists.

SAINTS DROP PAIR

SLU fell to 0-4 after dropping two more matches at the SUNY Cortland Tournament.

SUNY Fredonia defeated the Saints 25-23, 15-25, 25-23, 25-14, and SLU was swept by Hiram 25-10, 25-10, 25-16.

CROSS COUNTRY

CLARKSON SWEEPS TITLES

Clarkson’s men’s and women’s teams each won the five-school SUNY Canton Invitational. Clarkson’s men finished with 24 points and SUNY Plattsburgh was second with 46. SUNY Canton was fourth with 104 and SUNY Potsdam was fifth with 108.

Clarkson’s women finished with 21 points. SUNY Potsdam was second with 71 and SUNY Canton was fourth with 100.

SUNY Potsdam’s Hannah Groshner won the women’s race, finishing the 5-kilometer course in 21 minutes. Clarkson’s Victoria Hathaway was second, 12 seconds behind, followed by teammates Sarah Governale, Tara Siegle and Lindsey McCormick. SUNY Canton’s Samantha Smith was sixth.

SUNY Plattsburgh’s Nathan Doyle won the men’s race in 16:48. Clarkson’s A.J. Beers was second in 17:22 followed by teammate Matt Danosky. SUNY Canton’s Austin Johnson was sixth.

FIELD HOCKEY

UTICA 5, ST. LAWRENCE 1

Hannah Mackey scored three goals to lift the Pioneers in a nonconference game in Oneonta. It was the opener for both teams.

Olivia White scored for the Saints.
