MACOMB - A 57-year-old male who reportedly fell at least 60 feet from a cliff Monday night in the town of Macomb was airlifted to Upstate Medical Center for possible internal injuries.

A 44-year-old female who had also fallen was taken by Morristown Rescue to Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center for treatment of multiple cuts and abrasions.

Neither victim was identified in a release issued Tuesday by the Morristown Fire and Rescue Company.

According to the release, they were dispatched at 7:39 p.m. Monday to 56 Greystone Lane in the town of Macomb for a report of two individuals who had fallen over a 60-foot cliff. They responded with two ambulances and a heavy rescue truck with 19 members.

After arriving at the scene, they said they found the 44-year-old female and 57-year-male on the shore line of Black Lake. They said both individuals were suffering from injuries from the fall of at least 60 feet.

The female had multiple cuts and abrasions, they said, while the male complained of severe pain and was having trouble breathing. He was immobilized and transported by Morristown Rescue to the Macomb Municipal Building parking lot, where he was transferred to a helicopter and airlifted to Upstate Medical Center.

Both patients were removed from the shore line by boat due to the extreme slope of the cliff and were taken to the two awaiting ambulances at a nearby beach.

Gouverneur-based state police are investigating the incident.
