Memorial service for Mayfred M. Foster, 90, of Canton, will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 4:00 PM at the O’Leary Funeral Home, 5821 US Highway 11 with Pastor Brian Drury, officiating. Mayfred died on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital, while in the company of family.

Friends may call at the O’Leary Funeral Home on Saturday from 2:00 PM until the time of the service.

Mayfred is survived by two sons, Wayne Foster of Russell and Daniel Foster and wife Karen of Canton; by a brother; Leland Dafoe and wife Dorothy of Texas; a sister; Barbara Ferero and husband Michael of Crary Mills and by 9 grandchildren and several great and great-great grandchildren.

Mayfred is predeceased by a son Richard Foster, a daughter Karen Merkley; by sisters Harriett Campbell and Vera Thorbahn and by a brothers; Everett “Bob” Dafoe and John and Edward Dafoe in infancy and by a grandson Eric Foster.

Mayfred was born November 20, 1923 in Canton, the daughter of the late Alfred and Iva (Birch) Dafoe. She attended Canton Central School. On August 5, 1943, Mayfred married Clifford Foster at the Russell United Methodist Church. Mr. Foster predeceased her on April 14, 2006. Mayfred worked in the cafeteria at Canton College, retiring in June 1983.

She was a past member of the Canton VFW Post 1231 Ladies Auxiliary. She loved to crochet, sew and dance.
