Ahh, September. Pleasant and breezy days, back-to-school sales, and library cards. This is LIBRARY CARD SIGN-UP MONTH. Bring in children who are just starting school, friends who’ve just moved into the area, and yourself! With a library card you can check out books, movies, and more, download eBooks and magazines, do research or watch movies online, and expand your horizons. If you already have a library card, now is also the perfect time to make sure your contact information is up to date.
That includes your email: we can send reminders and pick-up notices electronically, so you won’t have to wait for a phone call. Your first library card is always free, and so are the doors it opens. Why not stop in sometime this month and see what we have to offer?
JUST ARRIVED Fans of “what-if” stories can dive into the sixth and final volume of Harry Turtledove’s alternate history of World War II, Last Orders: The War That Came Early. Those who prefer a gentler form of fiction can turn to Debbie Macomber’s latest Rose Harbor novel, Love Letters. Read along with children and help Tom try to catch Jerry as you flip through the pages of There is a Mouse in This Book, or share in Edda the Valkyrie’s first day of school. Older children will enjoy the Amulet series of graphic novels featuring a young girl, her brother, and their animal companions. Finally, we’ve added to our law collection with a new supply of guides for families, executors, landlords, and more.
COMPUTER OUTAGE The public computers will be unavailable tomorrow (Wednesday) morning for maintenance. The procedure for printing will change following this update. Thank you for your patience.
MANGA CLUB We’ll be starting up a Manga Club for teens (ages 12 and over) this month. Talk about your favorite comics, share drawing and writing tips, or just enjoy the company of your fellow manga lovers! The first meeting will be next Thursday, September 11, at 3 PM.
BOOKWORMS CLUB For children (fourth grade or older) and their parents (any age,) we’ll be gathering each month to discuss books together. The first meeting will be on Thursday, September 18 at 3 PM, when participants will pick out a book to read as a group.
ADULT’S BOOK CLUB We have not yet received any responses in regards to starting a book club here. If you are interested in founding or participating in a book club at the library this Fall and Winter, please contact us.
