College sports: SUNY Canton’s Meade wins in playoff


CLINTON — Zach Meade of SUNY Canton won on the second playoff hole to claim the Utica College Fall Invitational golf tournament Sunday at Skenandoa Golf Club.

Meade and Elmira College’s Jarryd tenVaanholt were tied after both shot a two-over par 72.

The Kangaroos finished fourth in the team event with a 325 behind Elmira (311).

In women’s soccer, former Salmon River standout Karley Cree scored in the 87th minute to help SUNY Potsdam edge Alfred State 1-0 in the second round of the Potsdam College Cup on Sunday. Emily Lapage stopped six shots in her debut for the Bears (1-0-1). Cree and Jess Sterns earned spots on the all-tournament team.

Tressa Goolden generated a pair of goals as SUNY Canton blanked Vermont Tech 4-0 Sunday in Canton. Kaleigh Foran and Karyss Terrance added goals for SUNY Canton (2-0).

In field hockey, Kelcy Forbragd’s two goals and one assist propelled SUNY Oneonta to a 5-1 victory over St. Lawrence University on Sunday at the Oneonta Invitational. Bailee Barrett and Andrea Day each contributed with a goal and an assists for SUNY Oneonta (2-0). Anna Hughes and Katie Klein each scored for St. Lawrence (2-0).
