OGDENSBURG - The Norwood-Norfolk Central varsity girls soccer team bounced back from a season-opening loss with a 2-1 win over Lisbon in the consolation game of OFA’s pre-season tournament on Wednesday.
The Lady Flyers opened a 2-0 lead early in the second half on a direct kick by All-Tournament defender Jen Fiacco and then held off concerted offensive pressure by Lisbon which intensified over the final 15 minutes.
“We didn’t have any reserves on defense so our defenders really got tired. Jenn Fiacco played very well in the back and sophomore Cassidy Weaver played so well last night that I moved her into the middle tonight,” said N-N Coach Jayne Bishop, who also received a deep stop by Emily Kolanko to break up the final in a long series of rushes by Lisbon’s Maddie Vine.
Kristin Barkley earned the Lady Flyers a 1-0 lead with the only goal of the first half which came off an assist by Maddie Seguin.
Lisbon, which finished with 18 shots on goal, finally broke through against goaltender Breanna Deshane (17 saves) when All-Tournament selection Alex Amo scored unassisted with a shot just under the crossbar from the top of the penalty area.
Lorraine Hollis handled eight shots for Lisbon.
In the championship game, Alex Steele connected for the lone goal in overtime to lift Heuvelton to a 1-0 win over host OFA.
