OFA Girls Swimmers Show Fine Present, Future

When OFA Girls Swimming Coach Ben Fleahman looks at his 2014 team he sees a group of performers which will score well in the upcoming Northern Conference season.

And a group of performers who will be part of sustained success in the years ahead.

“We have some very good returning swimmers plus we have one of our biggest incoming classes ever,” said Coach Fleahman.

“We have 11 freshmen and Coach John Tebo has 26 swimmers on his modified team. In the future we could be looking at a team with 40 swimmers which would be great.”

In the current season Coach Fleahman sees what he calls an “ideal situation”.

“Our veteran swimmers work hard and they will swim whereever they are needed,” said Fleahman.

“The freshmen show great patience and are looking to develop. They take instruction well.”

Leading the Devils into a new season are senior Susie Morrow (Fs, Backstroke, IM) and Julia Mullin (Butterfly, IM, Fs) and juniors Chelsea Montroy (50-100 Fs) and Madi Bresett (100 Butterfly, Relays).

They are looking replace the leadership provided Natalie Perrigo and Hunter Shaver.

Morrow won the 100 Backstroke and 100 Freestyle at the 2013 Section 10 Championship. Mullin took second and Bresett sixth in the 100 butterfly and the trio also swam with Perrigo on the second place 200 medley Relay Team.

Montroy placed seventh in the 50 and 100 yard Freestyles.

Other returning swimmers looking to expand their contributions are: Hannah Berg (So Backstroke), Claire Dufore (Jr 200-500 Fs), Claire Bush (backstroke), Megan Mills (50-100-200 Fs), Elizabeth Sovie (Backstroke) and Hayley Snodgrass (Backstroke).

The 11-member freshman class is: Emma Henry, Payton LaRock, Maria Pelusi, Jordan Snyder, Keeley Grizzuto, Annalese Dutch, Madison Wescott, Tessa Richardson, Brandi Barkley, Allexa Hooper and Jillian Dailey.

The Aquatic Devils will open a new Northern Conference season by hosting Edwards-Knox on Sept. 12.
