The News Library contains articles from the Watertown Daily Times dating back to 1988. You'll be able to find stories by staff writers and freelancers. Obituaries also are available through the News Library. Photos are available through WDT Photos.
How do I set up an account?
This is done via a secure form on the Web. You'll be asked to enter data like billing information, a credit card number and your choice for a password. Once your account is set up, you'll only need to enter your user name and password each time you want to access the full text of an article.
How much does it cost?
Searching the News Library is free, but there is a $2.95 charge for retrieving the full text of an article. Lower rates are available when you sign up for an archive subscription package.
There is no charge for entering your search terms and viewing the headlines and beginning text. If you decide to read the full text of an article, you'll need to set up an account using your credit card number. After your account is set up, you will be charged $2.95 for each full article you retrieve.
Are there other ways to get articles?
You can also search for past articles at some local libraries, but call ahead to assure that your library has the Watertown Daily Times available. Operators at the Watertown Daily Times cannot help you find articles in the News Library.
Can I post these articles on my Web Site?
No, archived articles are copyrighted by the Watertown Daily Times and cannot be republished electronically or in print without expressed permission. To do so is a violation of federal law. For information on reprint permission, please call our office. There may be a fee charged for reprint rights and your request may be denied without explanation.
Can I print a copy of an article for myself?
Yes, you may print a copy of a story on your home printer for your own personal use. You are in violation of the Times copyright, however, if you make multiple copies of a story and distribute them without the permission of The Times or if you include a copy of the story in a printed publication, without permission.
Where can I get help?
If you're having problems with your account or your user name and password, you can call 1 (800) 896-5587 or send e-mail to email@example.com. Operators at The Times cannot retrieve articles for you or answer questions about articles that appeared in the Watertown Daily Times.
To search the News Library, you can select a single year or the full News Library; you can limit the number of articles displayed on screen; and chose the order in which they appear.
In the "Search for" box, you can enter your search words or phrases for the articles you are trying to find.
You can use the words "and", "or" and "butnot" to refine your search and you can use parentheses to be more specific.
